Regional conventions offer interesting deep dives into local market interest. Exhibitors such as Beyond the Butcher were ready to entice local restaurateurs with their recently awarded FABI awards to highlight their achievements in trending plant-based protein. Many exhibitors were also vying to supply the next innovative boba tea cafes with new authentically sourced ingredients. A part of the Expo included a special international section with many exhibitors from China and Korea presenting their takes on plant-based meat, boba toppings, and makgeolli - a traditional sparkling rice wine akin to sake and soju.
Flavor innovators Torani promoted their new “incantation” - a sweet heat syrup that epitomizes the ongoing interest in spicy sweet combinations. The featured “swicy sour spritz” offering includes a Tajin-rimmed glass and a hanging gummy worm candy that attracted many people to the booth. In the neighboring aisle, Mike’s Hot Honey continued to generate a lot of interest in the flavor combination, with attendees able to sample multiple treats through the day including a greek yogurt and hot honey sample which came with an “inspiration book” which demonstrated other ways to be swicy. While there were many a few fall flavors to preview the next season, the beautiful Anaheim begs summer to last just a little longer!
