Innovation Spotlight - Chagaccino and Adaptogens

The interest in adaptogens has taken off into the stars, particularly when it comes to the functional mushrooms which include Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, and Turkey Tail! While any sort of herb, root, or other plant extract is considered an adaptogen such as other trend-setters like turmeric or ashwagandha, the term has recently been associated more with the functional mushrooms that promote anti-inflammatory, brain boosting, and antibacterial properties. Surely, penicillin was just the first of compounds found in different mushrooms species to give beneficial effects.

The Chaga mushroom in particular has become a popular addition to different coffees and teas. Growing on the bark of birch trees in colder climates and used by Russian traditional medicine for centuries, chaga is very high in fiber as well as antioxidants thought to boost the immune system and fight inflammation. Particularly high in melanin which is a familiar antioxidant humans also make which affects skin color, the ground dark powder mixes well with coffee whose natural oils amplify the mushroom’s effects. Los Angeles coffee shops such as Rocketship Coffee have experimented with what they are calling their Chagaccino Latte which either as decaf or not aims to take your wellness routines to new heights!
